I have a strong passion and a belief that restorative Justice works. I have seen it firsthand. Releasing individuals from being incarcerated to homelessness has not worked and never will.
We are failing the people being released as well the community by releasing these individuals into homelessness only to reoffend and not follow court orders. I feel that by bridging the gap between jail and housing we can prevent homelessness as well lower relapse and reoffending rates.
By ensuring individuals have connections to the proper supports upon discharge it only improves their life chances to become successful and ultimately benefits the community.

I am a Freelance Graphic Designer, Photographer and Artist with a background in Marketing, Event Planning and Management. I have been managing social media, planning and managing large events as well as managing staff and projects for most of my career. This includes marketing strategies, annual event calendars, newsletters, step-by-step instructions for individual advertising needs as well as general project management and data handling.
I have no doubt that the skills and experience I’ve accumulated in my career would be an asset to any organization who is looking to fill a leadership role.
I have great respect for outreach workers and any organization willing to lend a helping hand to the most vulnerable of our population and I believe The Equality Project is key in assisting this demographic of our communities.

All my relations, that’s what we Cree people say at ceremonies or celebrations because that’s how we look at each other and ourselves. We’re all related and connected to one another, whether it’s by blood or marriage.
When I work with families who become involved with children services I always try to make it a teaching moment for my non-indigenous counterparts. By doing this they know where we as indigenous people are coming from. Places of fear and the unknown. By the end of the meeting they understand a bit more of a small
part of our history. Every community has their own teachings and way of doing things and I acknowledge that I am on Mi’kmaq territory. I will respect their ways of doing things and I promise to keep families together the way they are meant to be.

My job consists of working with off-reserve indigenous men and women who are homeless or are struggling, with the goal of finding long term affordable housing. I also provide outreach service to my clients. I have sat for 3 years on the coordinated access working group for PEI, and have helped adopt HIFIS 4.0 onto the Island.
I think our outreach program should start with home check ins providing triage assessment and in person peer support. My arm of the program would focus on working with clients to secure housing solutions and maintain current housing, with a focus on prevention diversion and eviction prevention strategy through client and landlord engagement.
As all members of this project are trained in HIFIS we can continue our work with the coordinated access committee and fill a gap currently not being provided by government services.
